In the Michael Jackson-themed show, presented by Dermot O’Leary on Saturday night, all remaining 11 finalists sang live in front of the judges and studio audience.

The results show, shown 45 minutes after the first show ended, saw Spanish-born Ruth Lorenzo go head-to-head with Girlband after both acts picked up the fewest votes with the public.

It was Girlband’s second consecutive week in the bottom two after facing a sing-off in last week’s show with fellow group Bad Lashes.

Earlier in the night both acts received poor reviews from the judges and Lorenzo fluffed the lyrics in her version of I Just Can’t Stop Loving You.

Girlband’s rendition of Heal The World was branded over-the-top by stern critic Simon Cowell who said he had half expected polar bears to make an appearance at one stage.

The two acts were given a second chance to perform a new song and told to sing for their place in the competition.

Lorenzo sang the Prince hit Purple Rain and Girlband performed rock ballad Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith.

However, the judges still failed to reach a majority verdict on who to kick out and Simon Cowell took the vote to deadlock for a second consecutive week.

Referring the decision to the public vote it was Girlband who secured the least support and had to say goodbye.

The terrified singer was left distraught after specialists ordered her to quit rehearsals for tonight’s live show.

Last night an ITV1 source revealed: “Alexandra’s very emotional.

“She has an extremely sore throat and doctors told her she couldn’t rehearse. It’s been very hard for Alexandra, but she can’t take the chance of ruining her voice.”

Alexandra, 20, from Islington, North London, hopes resting her voice will allow her to make it through tonight’s performance. But she will have to do it WITHOUT any vocal preparation.

It is the latest hurdle for the youngster who failed to make it through to the finals when she first auditioned three years ago. That knockback almost made Alex give up her dream.

This time she is the 3/1 bookies’ favourite to win. Meanwhile Girlband are 2/1 on to be the first to get the boot.

The first X Factor live show of the series has just finished, and for the desperately disappointed group, the journey is already over.

The Bad Lashes gals moved into the X Factor house just two weeks ago, but after renditions of It Must’ve Been Love and survival song Wonderwall failed to live up to the expectations of the Great British public, the girls are the first contenders to be ousted in the live studio shows.

The public vote result meant that it the final battle would be between the shows two girl groups – Girlband and Bad Lashes.

It was then down to the act’s all-important survival song to decide the overall result.

Bristol-based Girlband picked the Dionne Warwick track That’s What Friends Are For, in the hope that sticking together would bring ‘em the lifeline they so badly needed. They performed it well and its message was poignant and fitting.

And North-east gals Bad Lashes chose to perform the Oasis song Wonderwall to save their bacon. The girls gave it their all but perhaps the emotion showed just a little too much.

Simon’s verdict was, “I thought they were both shocking. But the band I am sending home is Bad Lashes”.

Cheryl voted for Girlband, although she told both groups she had a lot of respect for them.

Danni said “The act I will send home is Girlband.”

And to force deadlock, Louis voted for Bad Lashes, leaving the judges’ vote even. The result was therefore decided by public vote. The public sent home Bad Lashes.

Groups mentor Louis Walsh must take stock after two of his three acts found themselves faring badly in the vital public vote. Louis said “They’re two very good groups, that’s why I picked them”.

“I am devastated for the girls they had so much more to give”.

Bad Lashes are obviously terribly disappointed to be leaving the party so soon.

But making it to the final twelve contenders from the 182,000 applications is no mean feat.

In the end it was just too much for Bad Lashes…

…and now just eleven acts remain in the competition to sing again next week.

Now we just want to let you know that this list of X Factor finalists is NOT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED, but there have been many predictions on forums all over the UK by those claiming to be ‘in the know’. I bet that at least some of them are right!

Sources suggest that Rachel Hylton has made it through to the final 24 of the X-Factor.

A source on the ITV talent show told The Sun: “Rachel is brilliant – it looks as if she could go far on the show.

“She has got past boot camp and the next stage will be the judges’ houses, which we will film in a few weeks’ time.

“That’s when the four judges pick their final three and those 12 go through to the live shows – so Rachel is in with a great shot of making it.”

“Rachel is a mother of five had a tormented childhood, growing up without her father Allan. At 12 she ran away from home and put herself into care. By 13 she was a drug addict and a single mother.

Eight years ago she appeared at a London court for attacking a woman in the street. She was given 60 hours community service and 18 months probation.

Four months later she burgled a house in Hackney, East London, to get money for drugs. Back in court again, she was jailed for 18 months.

Her drug use had spiralled out of control in her teens and she went on to have four more children – all by different dads. Social workers were so appalled by her drug use and violent boyfriends that her three oldest children – two sons, now aged 13 and nine, and a daughter, seven – were taken into care. Londoner Rachel finally vowed to clean up her life and went into rehab after her release from prison in 2002.

Now a devout churchgoer, she has been drug-free for six years and lives in Stanmore, North West London, with her two youngest children, son Tishon, six, and daughter Tashanee, four. She suffered heartbreak when her dad left her mum Sharon to return to his ex-partner Valerie Lynch.

Then Allan and Valerie’s 10-month-old twins Allan and Amelia died in a house fire in North London in 1990 when Rachel was eight.

A pal of Rachel’s said: “She is sorry for the attack and the burglary. She knows she can’t turn back the clock and erase the hurt. But she is a totally different person. The old Rachel has gone forever.” A show insider said: “She has been through hell but has won her life back.

Rachel Hylton’s life is certainly going to change from the better. The former drug addict impressed all the X Factor judges with Simon Cowell telling her that her audition performance of the Amy Winehouse track ‘You Know I’m No Good’ was his favourite so far in the competition. The music mogul even told the young mum, “I absolutely love you. You are just fantastic.”

Despite only being twenty six Rachel has certainly done a lot – she has spoken of her addiction to drugs, how she turning to crime, went to prison, had under-age sex and lost three of her five children when they were taken into care.

Rachel has told reporters that her home life was stable but her life started to go wrong when she was expelled from two primary schools for violent behaviour.

She told the News of the World: “I would run away from home. I lost my virginity when I was 11 to a boy who lived next door. He was 14. I also had sex with older men. I became promiscuous and started to
run away more.”

When she was twelve she became pregnant for the first time. Her boyfriend was a 28-year-old drug dealer who introduced her to crack and ecstasy. Social services put her in one foster home and her son in another.

When she was just fourteen she began a relationship with another drug dealer. This boyfriend was very abusive.

Rachel explained: “He introduced me to heroin. Mentally and physically, he used to torture me. He was a nasty piece of work.”

She had another son when she was seventeen and he was taken into care. After her boyfriend dumped her she turned to crime to feed her habit.

She confessed: “I was a complete addict so I would shoplift, do muggings and commit street robberies.”

Pregnant again in prison

When she was eighteen and pregnant she was sentenced to 18 months in Holloway Prison for attempted burglary. Her newborn daughter went staight into care when she was born.

Rachel couldn’t keep clean when she left prison and soon found herself back inside. She then found out she was pregnant for the fourth time. She was determined to keep her new baby and turned her life around. She gave up drugs and went on to have another daughter.

Rachel is now a single mum and is determined to win the X Factor so she can give her kids a better life.
